A space for grieving families at Bradford Royal Infirmary

Bradford Hospitals Charity has unveiled the refurbished Snowdrop Suite, a private and comforting space for families facing the heartbreaking loss of a baby.

The transformation was made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Izzard family, who turned their personal grief into a mission to support others.

The updated space features a comfortable double bed, soft furnishings, gentle lighting, a TV, and thoughtful design elements to create a homely, calming environment - far removed from the clinical hospital setting.

Laura, Matthew and Ruby’s campaign raised £15,000 for Bradford Hospitals Charity, who supported the refurbishment to reflect the family’s requests. Laura Izzard said: “Our son Louie Alaxander Izzard was born sleeping at 25 weeks. It was the worst day of our lives and something we never imagined could happen to us. There are no words to describe the heartbreak we live through each day.

“Thanks to the Snowdrop Suite, we were able to spend precious hours with Louie in a space that gave us privacy and comfort away from the busy labour ward.”

The suite was officially unveiled by Ruby and George Izzard at a small, private event held for bereaved families, in loving memory of their brother Louie. “We haven’t been back in there since that day and it was incredibly moving to see how the money we raised from our Walk for Louie has transformed the space…” explained Laura.

“It was overwhelming (in the best way) to see how much love and care went into every detail, and to know the funds raised in Louie’s name have helped make a difference for families, who heartbreakingly, may find themselves there in the future.”

The refurbishment was shaped by feedback from families who have used the suite, ensuring it meets both the emotional and practical needs of bereaved parents.
