Marathon runners raise cash for Bradford Hospitals Charity

Bradford Hospitals’ Charity would like to say a huge THANK YOU to runners who took part in this year’s London Marathon!

Atiq Zaman, of Heaton, Bradford, chose to represent the charity after his daughter spent a month in Bradford Royal Infirmary’s Neonatal Unit.

Atiq said: “I really wanted to do something to say thank you for the excellent treatment my daughter received in the Neonatal Unit after she was born in October 2016. When my place was confirmed for the London marathon, I decided to run it to say thank you for the extraordinary care she received.” He is now a lifetime member of the Neonatal Trust Fund.

Atiq completed the course in 6:33.

Helen Waddington, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, is chair of the Bradford Hospitals’ Children’s Charity bid panel, so sees first-hand the incredible difference it makes to children visiting the hospitals.

Helen is a keen runner, having already taken part in the Berlin Marathon in 2015 and Yorkshire Marathon in 2016. However, she has never run to raise money before. She said: “I am always impressed by the work the team does at Bradford Hospitals’ Charity and it’s nice to be able to contribute.” She will be splitting the money between Bradford Hospitals’ Charity and a small Welsh charity called Value Independence, which supports adults with additional needs to gain independence.

Helen completed the course in 4:15.

Hayley Collis, Head of Fundraising for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, said: “We are delighted and incredibly grateful that Helen and Atiq chose to run the London Marathon for our charity! I would encourage as many people as possible to still donate. It will go a long way to ensuring we provide the best possible facilities and environment for patients visiting our hospitals.”

The London Marathon took place on Sunday, 22 April.
